Why you should take time out of your business

Just the thought of time away from your business sends chills down your spine doesn’t it? How can you possibly break away from your business for a whole week? As I write this blog I’m at the side of the pool in Kos. I’ve been up since 6:30am (I’m an early riser anyway, even on holiday). I was the only one sat around the pool for around 45 minutes, apart from the pool man cleaning the pool I didn’t see a soul. It was so peaceful and relaxing sitting there with my laptop catching up on emails and managing clients inboxes.

Yes I could have said I’m not doing a thing whilst I’m away but honestly, I couldn’t possibly not check in on my business and I would have serious FOMO if I didn’t know what was going on with my clients whilst I’m away.

I’m an early riser unlike my husband, Dave and son, Kai. They’re happy to have a lie in but when the sun is shining outside I like to make the most of it. The time I have in a morning before they wake up is so productive for me and it doesn’t impact their holiday either.

I’m lucky enough to have a great team behind me too. My business partner Katie, is more than capable of holding the fort in my absence and I’d trust her with my life. Anthony started working with us at the beginning of the year and he’s been a godsend to our business. Our clients love him and he bends over backwards, treating our business as he would his own. For that reason I am happy to be in a different country knowing that the business is running smoothly without me.

Yes it meant long hours last week before I flew out but that’s the price you pay when running your own business to get quality time with your family. As a business owner you have to make sacrifices but this will help you to achieve those goals on your vision board.

You're building a business so that you’re the boss! You can choose what time you have out of your business and get the freedom you desire. What’s the point if you don’t break from the chains of your desk?

If you don’t get the vital time you need away from your business you’ll reach burnout. We all need some down time to relax and unwind. I’ve not even been here a day yet and I feel stress free, which has given me a much clearer mind. Don’t get me wrong, my business doesn’t leave my mind! But it’s new ideas running through my mind not the worry of what’s going to happen to my business without me.

Yesterday was our first day, we arrived at 2pm after a 2:45am start. Kai played in the pool most of the day and I was constantly in and out of the water with him. It makes me so happy to be able to have this precious time with him. We had to convince Dave to get in the pool, it took him a while. He doesn't like the cold water, but we had a giggle when he eventually got in, in fact everyone around the pool watched him jumping up and down in shock with the temperature of the water!

Providing you make your clients aware that you're taking time out of the business, giving them plenty of notice and put plans in place whilst you’re not around, you can take the time you need away from your business. If you don’t have a team behind you, why not outsource to Two Birds Resources? We can be your backup team so that you can relax and unwind.

Start thinking about what’s next on your vision board and go for it!!!
